SISEC White made the trip to Vancouver while Blue stayed in town to play in the Edge Fall Classic in Springbank. It was a big hockey filled weekend for the Selects.
SISEC Blue Nov 8-10, Springbank--
Blue squad rolled into the Edge facilities in Springbank on Friday morning of the long weekend with high hopes of leaving their mark on the 2013 Edge Fall Classic. Being placed in a pool with Okotoks and Lethbridge from the SCAHL and St. Albert of the NAMHL, SISEC knew that it would be a challenge to make it in to the playoffs.
Blue went into the first game against the Okotoks Oilers with a short bench. The task would prove to be too much for the team, as they fell 5-1. This would be a common refrain for the Selects Blue this weekend. They fought hard to make a game out of their Friday night game against St. Albert, but despite a come back in the 2nd frame, St. Albert turned on the heat in the third for a 13-6 result. They closed the round robin portion of the tournament against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Despite keeping the game close for the first half of the game, the Hurricanes took control in the end and won 7-3. They would play a final game against the Calgary Canucks and fell 4-1. It was a frustrating weekend for the players and coaching staff alike, but there is more hockey to be played, so Blue squad is now charged with the task of moving on from the losses.
SISEC WHITE Nov 8-10, Vancouver, BC--
White Squad were coming to Vancouver with hopes of getting into the win column. Their start to the 3 game weekend was forgettable. The Delta Hockey academy rolled out the welcoming mat with a 10-1 route over the Selects. Thankfully, this would not be an indicator for the rest of the weekend.
The following evening, SISEC would start slow, giving up two quick goals to the Burnaby Winter Club. However, Brodie Saywell and Jon McIntosh would combine to tie the game while Emerson Pugh scored the game winner in the second frame while Chase Krompocker shut the door to earn victory for SISEC White.
The following day would be SISEC's stiffest competition of the weekend, facing the undefeated OHA before the long bus ride home. On the strength of two goals by Brodie Saywell and one from Tyler Besner, SISEC was leading OHA by a 3-2 score. With a minute left in the 2nd period, OHA's Beck Malenstyn tied the game at 3. The third period was scoreless, and this game needed a shootout. Selects' Ivan Leuppi was the only player to score as Mikkel Wik shut the door and earned victory for SISEC against previously undefeated OHA.
SISEC White looks to build off of this massive victory as they head up north for a NAMHL weekend on Nov 15. SISEC Blue looks to bounce back as they are hosting games at their home rink, Winsport, this coming weekend. For up to date news, scores, and scheduling, please visit sisec.ca
